Our Story

A New York waitress.
A New York chef.
Four decades in Richmond.

Four Seasons is the Vlasidis family table. George and Effie opened it in Powhatan in 2004, after almost two decades running family restaurants up and down the Richmond area. Today, Jimmy and Barbara run the Midlothian dining room while their mother Effie keeps the pastry case stocked with her New York-style cheesecakes and tower cakes. Same family, same recipes, four decades in.

How it started

It started in a New York dining room.

Effie Vlasidis was a waitress. George Vlasidis was a chef. They met in New York, married, and built their lives around one idea: a family-run dining room where the food was good and the regulars felt at home.

In 1986, George and Effie packed up their four children, Maria, Barbara, Irene, and Jimmy, and moved from New York to Midlothian. George had been stationed at Fort Lee during his Army years and already knew the Richmond area. They came for the community. They stayed for 40+ years.

“What began as a dream between a New York waitress and a New York chef has grown into a multi-generational family legacy built on perseverance, tradition, and heartfelt hospitality.”
The Vlasidis family
Roots

Richmond kids. Family business.

The Vlasidis children grew up in their parents’ restaurants. Maria and Barbara graduated from Monacan High School. Irene and Jimmy graduated from James River. They worked the late nights, closed up the kitchens, and learned the trade the only way you can, alongside their parents.

The family remains especially grateful for the Richmond City police officers who watched out for them on those long late-night closings, all those years ago.

22 years after the first plate left the Powhatan kitchen, the menu has grown, the kitchen has moved, and the rule hasn’t changed: feed the neighborhood like family.
